COVID-19 Vaccinations

As you are aware the Covid vaccination for the Over 80's and Care Home residents is currently underway and all local practices are working together to deliver this.
We have 2500 people locally who are over 80, so please rest assured you will be contacted, but not everyone will be able to have the vaccine at the same time.
Please don't be alarmed if you have not yet received a call, or you find out that a friend or neighbour has had their vaccine and you haven't. This is a very complex program and we ask for your patience - you will be contacted by a booking hub to book your appointment when clinics are available.
All local practices, including ours, continue to take calls for other medical conditions in the usual way, but our receptionists will not be able to tell you anything with regards to the next vaccination dates. Please wait to be contacted to book your appointment.

As well as being offered vaccination appointments at local GP practices and community hubs, patients aged 70+ and 80+ (and health and care frontline staff) are now receiving letters from NHS England inviting them to use the national booking system for an appointment at Castle Quarter in Norwich.

If you:

1)   Have already had a first vaccination and been given an appointment for a second vaccination then please keep this appointment and attend the same place where you had your first vaccination.

2)   Have a confirmed appointment with your local GP practice or community hub for a first vaccine then please keep this appointment and ignore the letter sent by NHS England.

3)   Have received a letter from NHS England offering you an appointment at Castle Quarter in Norwich and have not previously been offered an appointment from your GP practice or a community hub then you can choose to either:

a)   Book a vaccination at Castle Quarter through the national appointment system using the telephone number and website address provided in the NHS England letter


 b)   Wait until a local GP Practice or community hub contacts you with an appointment.  You shouldn’t have to wait too long as this process is underway.

We apologise for any confusion and thank you for your patience.

Update as of 04 February 2021:

Please be advised that we will be forwarding an NHS message with information to all of our patients over the age of 50 or that are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable regarding the COVID vaccination programme.
This information will come in the form of a text message if we hold a mobile number on your record or via a letter if we do not have a mobile number for you. The information will contain a link to a website regarding the vaccination programme and we would like to reassure you that these messages have been sent by the surgery on behalf of the NHS and it is safe to open the link.
Messages with the information will be rolled out over the next few days.

Mental Health Support

First response is a 24/7 helpline offering immediate advice and support for people with mental health difficulties.  If you are experiencing something that makes you feel unsafe, distressed or worried about your mental health you can call the helpline on 0808 196 3494.  The helpline is available to all members of the public, regardless of whether you are under an existing mental health service. 

Your call will be answered by a trained mental health professional who will be able to listen to your concerns and help you get the support that you need.

If you would prefer that the person answering your call does not see your telephone number, you can turn off your caller ID in your phone's settings.

Musculoskeletal Services

As of 01 July 2020 patients can now book directly into our Musculoskeletal assessment clinics.  These are run by Specialist Physiotherapists and provide rapid access to assessment and advice for anyone suffering with joint pains or injury.

They can provide you with information and guidance on how to manage your condition as well as exercise and treatment advice.  They will be able to liaise with GPs if required or refer on to other services if they feel it is appropriate.

Ultrasound Guided Steroid Injections at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital

Radiology have not been able to provide an image guided steroid injection service due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent national guidance from multiple specialist bodies. This will remain the status quo for the foreseeable future.

Our practice is supporting vital Coronavirus (COVID-19) planning and research by sharing your data with NHS Digital.  For further information please see the "Practice Policies" section of our website.


We would like to inform our patients that both routine and urgent appointments are still going ahead.  Unless you are otherwise informed please attend all scheduled appointments as normal.  Please ensure when visiting the surgery that you follow strict social distancing procedures and wear a face covering at all times.  Please ensure that you do not attend the surgery if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of the Coronavirus.

Theatre Royal Surgery takes pride in offering the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare.

We offer clinics for chronic disease care and offer a wide variety of other medical services such as antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations as well as online access enabling patients to book certain types of appointment and order repeat medication. 

Theatre Royal Surgery is a teaching practice and works with the UEA Medical School providing tuition to first year medical students.
