When We Are Closed
Out of Hours
Over the weekend and between 6pm and 8am the surgery is closed, if you need to speak to a doctor during these hours then please contact the out of hours service. The service is provided by IC24 and their number can be found by dialling 01362 852800 when we are closed where you will then be given the number for the duty doctor.
When speaking to them the call taker will ask for details of your problem, depending on the nature of your illness you may be given advice over the telephone on how to treat yourself at home or to visit a pharmacy. You may be asked to attend a local primary care centre where, depending on your clinical need, you may be treated by a doctor, nurse or emergency care practitioner or you may be visited at home by a healthcare professional. In the case of a genuine medical emergency they may arrange for an ambulance to attend.
If you feel that you have a genuine medical emergency, dial 999. Remember that chest pains and/or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
The out of hours service is only to be used if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
The out of hours service for Theatre Royal Surgery is a service bought and commissioned on our behalf by the South Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group. If you have any complaints or observations about the out of hours service or level of cover please contact SNCCG by clicking here.
If you need medical help but it is not a 999 emergency, you can call NHS 111. They will assess you, provide advice and direct you to the most appropriate local service for your need.
NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and calls to this number are free (including from mobiles).

Training Day Closures
We hold staff training days at various intervals throughout the year.
This usually means that the surgery will be closed between 8am and 2pm. If you have a medical emergency during that time please call our normal telephone number (01362 852800) and you will be directed to the out of hours cover for that day.
During these closures we undertake a variety of training sessions, including mandatory training such as basic life support, health and safety, information governance and infection control. We also have regular meetings to review patients on our End of Life/Palliative Care register as well as more area specific training sessions for individual teams (adminstration/reception, clinicians etc).
We will always let our patients know in advance when the training days will be held via posters in the surgery and on our website and facebook page.
